Concept

The Golden Arches of McDonalds at night and their ability to entranch us.

About

The purple light that emits from the fragmented McDonald's arch is a hue referenced from night skies over active cityscapes. I chose McDonald's because it often contributes to the late-night glow.

For me, the original arches evoke a sense of reassurance, a familiar comfort that I've grown accustomed to during my travels. Perhaps it's nostalgia, having grown up in the "hashbrown generation," but the arches at night prompt me to reflect on my own experiences and emotions.

On the wall, a stop-sign sized octagon frames a form that evokes the gentle cascade of hair down someone's back. Constructed from large beaded hair ties sourced from a local beauty supply, the figure is a tactile representation of a fleeting moment.

The use of everyday materials adds a sense of intimacy and familiarity to the piece, inviting the viewer to contemplate the beauty in mundane details.
